Inquiry Questions

How can the exhibitions, objects and artifacts at the Australian National Maritime Museum help us understand how people lived in the past compared to today?

Activity 1: Two Stars and a Wish

Students will complete a worksheet titled Two Stars and a Wish. They will note down two things that they have learnt from their visit and a follow-up question that they have.

Activity 2: What's in my Bag?

In groups, students will imagine they are sailors from the past and come up with a list of 5 objects from the museum that they would take with them. They will then present to the class what 5 items they would bring and why those items are essential for their journey.

Activity 3: Diary Entry

In their HSIE workbooks, students will write a diary entry pretending they are a person who travelled by sea in the past. They will use a first-person perspective and be prompted by the following questions:

Where are you travelling?

What do you see?

What do you use for navigation?

What technology do you use?

What are some challenges you experience?
